Muntons is a leading supplier of malts and malted ingredients to the food and drinks industry worldwide. They have a 45-acre site, operate 365 days a year, and feature a 24/7 manufacturing facility supplying over 90 countries.
The programme involves gaining experience and training to develop your knowledge and skills to enable you to take up an engineering position within the organization. The company will provide training to achieve this, but a permanent placement cannot be guaranteed.
You will be part of the Muntons engineering team responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Stowmarket site. The apprenticeship is recognized by Muntons and meets the appropriate framework to achieve the outcome. You will eventually be responsible for a range of electrical and mechanical engineering tasks, including planned maintenance, small projects, installations, and breakdown repairs.
Day-to-Day Engineering (Mentor-guided):
* Respond proactively to engineering breakdowns to maximize production and minimize downtime.
* Plan access for preventive maintenance using the CMMS system.
* Communicate daily with your mentor and Engineering Team Leader to prioritize tasks.
* Participate in and update all taskings from the CMMS system.
* Prioritize tasks, breakdowns, and preventative maintenance.
* Adapt to changing work demands and routines.
General Maintenance Activities (Mentor-guided):
* Perform day-to-day repairs within your skillset and training.
* Carry out plant modifications as required.
* Participate in maintenance during plant shutdowns.
Plant Hygiene (Mentor-guided):
* Ensure tools and equipment are removed from food processing areas after tasks.
* Maintain a tidy engineering workshop.
Administration (Mentor-guided):
* Respond to internal customer requests, providing updates via email and the CMMS system.
* Keep task records updated with work details.
Electrical (Mentor-guided):
* Fault find on electrical control and power systems, including intermittent faults.
* Identify causes of motor overloads, test/replace motors, and select suitable alternatives.
Electromechanical (Mentor-guided):
* Fault find and repair pneumatic solenoid valves and cylinders.
* Test electrical actuators on valves and air louvres.
Mechanical (Mentor-guided):
* Identify and repair failed bearings on shafts, motors, conveyors, and elevators.
* Perform repairs on shafts.
This role is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
