To take a lead role on improvement and innovation in clinical environments with regards to medicines safety through nursing practice across the organisation. To develop and or support innovation relating to safe medication practice, and evidenced based safe medication practice that focuses on improving the quality of care and patient experience.
To contribute to the design and facilitation of complex medicines safety projects and medicines safety including but not limited to digital workflows.
The post holder will be supported by the Associate Chief Nursing and Director of Nursing with key collaboration with Heads of Nursing, matrons and pharmacy leads.
Main duties of the job
Provide clear clinical and professional leadership for medicines management across the Trust.
Provide training and presentations relating to safe medication practice, to a range of staff and stakeholder groups
Take a lead role in safe medication practice development projects for
nursing and midwifery in response to specific needs as required.
To lead and support the digital transformation and review of medicines administration pathways and medicines safety .
To be key participant within trust wide medicines forums eg Medicines Safety Committee, Drugs & Therapeutic Committee, Medicines Administration Group (Epic)
Supported by the DON, HONs and lead Pharmacists, ensure
that nursing is proactive and influential in its contribution to the
continuous improvement of patient care and professional excellence in
medication safety.
Support the practice of nursing and midwifery non-medical prescribers and lead and support medicines link nurses.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
1. First level registered Nurse or Midwife ( or relevant registered professional)
Desirable criteria
2. Relevant Masters/MBA qualification or equivalent experience
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
3. Demonstrable experience in leading and delivering change and performance, by engaging teams in strategic direction and delivery plans, establishing clear work priorities with them, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, and monitoring performance and giving feedback
4. Able to think and plan strategically, tactically, and creatively, and to prioritise work programmes in the face of competing demands
5. Experience of using quantitative and qualitative data and information to inform delivery planning and monitoring performance.
6. Experience of analysing complex data and or national guidance and being able to interpret and apply it locally
