Linux Engineer
Contract: 12‑month Full-Time FTC (high potential to go perm)
Location: Remote (UK or Dublin) + European travel every two months
Salary: €70,000
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week + paid on-call rota (1 week in 5)
About the Role
A major international organisation is seeking a Linux Engineer to support and enhance its mission‑critical IT infrastructure. You will play a key role in Data Centre management, Cloud environments, SAN Storage, Linux systems, and Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery operations.
This position suits a highly skilled engineer with deep Linux expertise and extensive experience delivering resilient, secure and high‑availability infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Operations
1. Support and maintain Cloud, Storage and Data Centre platforms.
2. Manage regional Data Centres and ensure alignment with internal standards and audit requirements.
3. Contribute to Data Centre design with a strong focus on redundancy and high availability.
4. Install, configure and manage Linux servers using automation where appropriate.
5. Maintain uptime and minimise service disruption across environments.
Data Protection & DR
6. Configure and manage enterprise Backup & DR solutions.
7. Perform regular DR testing, verifying RPO/RTO objectives and updating documentation.
8. Monitor performance and implement enhancements as needed.
Cross‑Team Collaboration
9. Work alongside Network, DBA, Application, Systems and Service Desk teams on migrations, upgrades and technical projects.
10. Support and mentor junior engineers.
11. Manage and resolve tickets within agreed SLAs.
Change, Compliance & Documentation
12. Execute patches, upgrades and maintenance in line with change processes.
13. Follow ITIL-aligned Change and Problem Management.
14. Maintain detailed documentation, diagrams and knowledgebase articles.
Leadership
15. Act as deputy for the Senior Manager when required.
16. Lead project tasks, manage risks, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
What You Bring
17. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent training/certifications.
18. 10+ years’ experience in Cloud, Storage and Data Centre Engineering.
19. Strong expertise in: Linux administration (RHEL, Oracle Linux), VM builds and automation Hypervisors including VMware and Oracle Linux VM SAN storage, Fibre Channel, zoning and IP‑based storage Data Protection tools (e.g., Commvault, Networker, Zerto) Monitoring tools such as Nagios, Grafana, Graylog Automation tools including Ansible, Kickstart, shell scripting
20. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to assess and manage risk.
21. Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
22. Experience leading technical projects and coordinating cross‑functional teams.
