Design Engineer - CATIA
Portal Londrinatur, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), is a global space manufacturer delivering high‑tech solutions for telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, environmental management, exploration, science, and orbital infrastructures.
We are looking for a Design Engineer to generate mechanical and thermal designs of parts and assemblies required for space project propulsion sub‑systems and equipment.
Responsibilities
* Prepare and update subsystem CAD models and review materials through the different project life cycle milestones & reviews (PDR, CDR, QR, etc.).
* Demonstrate design engineering knowledge to achieve critical project outcomes within time, cost, and quality constraints.
* Cover activities such as integrated product design, requirements management, interface management, customer needs analysis and product design definition.
* Generate mechanical designs of parts and assemblies using Catia V5/V6, produce 2‑D drawings, BoMs, and manufacturing/assembly files.
* Participate in design trade‑off activities and manage the product tree structure using PLM tools (e.g., Enovia).
* Ensure drawing activities comply with project constraints, standards (BS 8888), and engineering change processes.
* Manage interfaces with other spacecraft areas and assess new suppliers and materials.
* Check designs for completeness, tolerance build‑ups, and integration sequences.
* Conduct monthly reviews of design work packages and manage workload of a small design team.
Key Performance Indicators
* Deliver design solutions and documentation within project schedules and resource constraints.
* Meet project milestones and maintain documentation quality.
Required Experience & Skills
* Good general knowledge of mechanical design and conception.
* Working knowledge of Catia V5 and PLM software (Enovia preferred).
* Experience in Design for Manufacture principles and BOM creation.
* Experience with engineering change processes.
* Knowledge of drawing standards (BS 8888) and geometric tolerancing best practice.
* Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.
Preferred Experience
* Multi‑disciplinary project experience with tight schedules.
* Experience dealing with customers, suppliers, and partners.
* Background in the space domain.
* Experience with specific CAD modules such as Sheetmetal, Pipe routing, Harnessing, ALM design, Cinematics, Composite panels.
Security Clearance Requirement
SC (Security Clearance) is required. Candidates should hold or be able to obtain SC before employment.
