Exciting opportunity for a Qualified/Trainee Assistant practitioner in Mammography
We are seeking self-motivated, enthusiastic Assistant practitioners in Mammography with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our busy Breast Imaging Service. We will also consider a Trainee assistant practitioner for this role.
The ideal candidate will be reliable, friendly, hardworking, and possess excellent organisational and communication skills. The ability to integrate well with the existing team and a genuine desire to contribute to service development and quality improvement are essential. Strong concentration, attention to detail, and the ability to empathise with and understand patient needs are also important.
Bolton Breast Imaging is committed to providing high-quality care for all patients attending for Breast Imaging. Imaging services are provided for Bolton Breast Screening and Symptomatic Services at Bolton Royal Hospital and three satellite sites in Bolton centre, Radcliffe, and Rochdale.
Our service supports a diverse skill mix, including Consultants, Advanced, Enhanced, and Assistant/Associate Practitioners. We are a progressive service that actively promotes continued professional development.
Main duties of the role
The Assistant Practitioner in Mammography will provide and maintain high standards of mammography for all patients, working under the supervision of a qualified senior radiographer. Responsibilities include performing quality control tests, reporting equipment issues, participating in service audits, and engaging in CPD. The role may also involve chaperone duties during ultrasound examinations and assisting during assessment and symptomatic clinics to ensure an efficient, caring service.

Job responsibilities
* Perform breast screening examinations to the highest standards, adhering to NHSBSP guidelines.
* Conduct screening mammography at the base and satellite units.
* Select appropriate imaging projections and exposures based on clinical knowledge and departmental protocols.
* Perform family history mammography under supervision.
* Check x-ray requests for justification and ensure patient identification and clinical details are accurately recorded.
* Evaluate mammography images for quality and diagnostic adequacy.
* Follow departmental protocols and radiation safety regulations.
* Participate in equipment quality control and safety checks, reporting faults promptly.
* Assist clinicians and mammographers during biopsy and assessment procedures, including ultrasound sessions.
* Ensure biopsy samples are correctly labeled and transported.
* Maintain a clean and safe environment in accordance with infection control policies.
* Assist with administrative duties and stock management.
* Be flexible to meet the service's needs, including working at various sites.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Maths and English GCSE or equivalent.
* Qualified Assistant/Associate practitioner in mammography or trainee wishing to train in mammography.
* Education to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience within the NHS setting.
* Proficiency in word processing and data entry.
* Experience in a Breast Screening Unit and understanding NHS policies.
