The Role
Would you like to play a crucial role within fire safety to ensure the safe delivery of Royal Navy submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Fire Safety in our submarines business.
As a Principal Engineer - Fire Safety, you will act as a subject matter expert for fire safety and will be a key contributor in ensuring safe submarines by design. You will engage with a wide range of engineering stakeholders across our programmes to develop and embed fire safety requirements, conduct fire risk assessments and reduce risks from fire hazards.
The role is currently offered with remote working, with occasional requirements for site visits to support specific project needs (Barrow in Furness).
This role will provide you with the chance to work alongside subject matter experts within an exciting and specialist skills area, whilst working on critical and complex national security engineering projects. This role will also give you the opportunity to develop processes and policies for the site, and influence change.
Role Requirements:
Not limited to...
1. Taking a lead role in fire risk assessment activities
2. Developing, producing and maintaining fire safety process documentation
3. Producing and reviewing fire and explosion safety strategies and risk assessments
4. Engaging with engineering stakeholders to develop and implement fire safety requirements
5. Production and review of safety case documentation (relevant to fire safety)
6. Providing support to regulatory compliance
7. Chairing fire and explosion safety workshops and working groups
What are BAE Systems looking for from you?:
8. Fire risk assessment experience gained from a high hazard industry or construction environment
9. Experience of working in a fire safety engineering environment and applying various fire safety guidance including Defence Standards, ADB, BS 9999 and relevant NFPA standards.
10. Application of risk based approaches to fire safety engineering
11. Experience of safety case development
12. Fire hazard identification and analysis
13. Fire risk assessment production and review
14. Fire strategies
15. Safety case authoring
16. Stakeholder engagement

The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.
