Technical Director (Roads)
WSP is seeking a senior Technical Director for the Roads portfolio in the UK & Ireland. This role is key to delivering large complex projects or frameworks across our extensive highways network.
Job Description
As a senior member of our business unit, you will lead project delivery, ensure technical excellence, and grow client relationships. You will work in a fast‑paced and agile environment, delivering schemes at local and national transport levels. You are client facing and must demonstrate a track record of delivering highways schemes.
A Little More About Your Role
* Responsible for the management and leadership of project teams to deliver project scope.
* Visible leadership of health, safety and wellbeing.
* Manage project risk and opportunity to ensure effective coordination of multidisciplinary work.
* Manage resources effectively to meet fluctuating workloads.
* Work with clients and design teams to deliver compliant designs on time and within budget, meeting CDM, QA and technical review requirements.
* Lead the design process, mentor and support less experienced staff through technical reviews.
* Participate in tender bids and business development opportunities.
* Develop relationships with other WSP teams to utilise additional resources.
* Agree fees and manage the commercial position on projects.
* Set the leadership and management tone in the unit, ensuring a fair, supportive and passionate culture.
* Understand operations in relation to large frameworks and influence major framework programmes, working capital, resource management, margin monitoring and client relations.
What We Are Looking For
* Experience of project management and technical delivery lead of highly complex highway schemes, with detailed experience of local and national highways procedures.
* Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of highways related projects, including new build, maintenance and assessment of road infrastructure.
* Working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCDHW).
