Job Overview
To provide specialist infection prevention and control advice as part of leadership and day to day team management of the Infection Prevention and Control Service at North Bristol Trust sites specified within service level agreements.
To act as the senior clinical nurse specialist for the team ensuring an effective infection prevention and control service is provided. This will include supporting, advising and educating staff, patients and visitors in the prevention and control if infection.
To provide support to the Tissue Viability Team as and when necessary.
To provide leadership in developing, improving and monitoring standards of patient care in relation to infection prevention and control.
To work closely with the multidisciplinary team in the Trust to ensure a quality service and will be actively involved in audit, education and research.
Main duties of the job
Should communicate effectively in their day-to-day practice with patients and should support and enable patients/carers to make choices, changes and influence the way their treatment or care is provided.
Act as an advanced clinical nurse specialist providing infection prevention and control advice, support and information to all healthcare personnel, patients and visitors to reduce the spread of infection to others.
Work closely with support and professionally develop the other members of the Infection Prevention and Control Team to provide advice and assistance to all areas within the Trust.
Facilitate clinical decision making in wards and departments using specialist clinical nursing knowledge.
Support clinical staff in carrying out risk assessments to control and prevent the spread of infection.
Assist in the provision of infection prevention and control advice on all service developments including upgrading, planning and capital projects within the Trust.
Manage a daily clinical workload, following up known infected patients, advising on isolation of patients and treatments, and advising on alert organisms.
Participate in the winter infection prevention and control weekend working rota as required.
