Overview
A vacancy at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeking to develop the Medical Photography service on the East Coast. The role combines clinical duties with management responsibilities, supporting a range of clinical specialties and developing the Ophthalmic Imaging team. The post holder will help shape imaging services within a new Ophthalmology department planned for the Scarborough site.
Responsibilities
* Establishing and running a medical photography service in accordance with IMI guidelines and the Data Protection Act 2018; providing clinical and non-clinical photographs and videos for patient records, clinical trials, legal work, teaching and publication.
* Photographing a range of conditions and settings, including inpatients on wards or in theatre and outpatients in the studio, across specialties such as Tissue viability, ENT and Dermatology.
* Line managing and developing a small, established team of Ophthalmic Imaging Technicians and an Ophthalmic Photographer; ensuring service delivery is maintained and management tasks (rota, appraisals, absence management, payroll, etc.) are completed timely and accurately.
* Undertaking specialist Ophthalmic Imaging procedures (e.g., OCT, fundus photography, Fluorescein Angiography, anterior segment photography, extra-ocular imaging) and other advanced techniques.
* Delivering training and mentorship to staff to support professional growth and maintain high standards of patient care.
* Contributing to service development for Scarborough, with travel to Malton and Bridlington, and occasional travel to York as required; managing a team based across three East Coast sites.
Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in clinical photography; registered or registerable with the Academy for Healthcare Science.
* Willingness to pursue a PgCert in Clinical Photography if not already obtained.
* Leadership and change management experience is advantageous.
Person Specification
* Experienced, personable and passionate about Ophthalmic and Medical Photography; strong communication skills and ability to provide tailored patient care in challenging conditions.
* Strong technical skills, sound judgment and a commitment to patient dignity and confidentiality; capable of being an approachable leader for the team.
Role Details
* Based at Scarborough Hospital with travel to Malton and Bridlington and occasional travel to York site.
* Line management: five band 4 Ophthalmic Imaging Technicians and one band 5 Ophthalmic Photographer covering three East Coast sites.
