Job description
Our client, operating within the HTP sector, is looking for an Environmental Sustainability Advisor to join their team on a contract basis. This role, involves providing essential support and advice to operational teams on various environmental management aspects. You will be instrumental in developing environmental documentation, ensuring compliance with legal and company standards, and fostering a culture of continual improvement. You will also work closely with clients and regulators to align with environmental requirements, support on-site mitigation, and engage with local stakeholders and the public. Overseeing multiple Environmental and Sustainability Advisors, you will ensure project compliance and identify key themes and trends.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide advice and support to operational teams on environmental matters
2. Develop and maintain local environmental management and sustainability plans
3. Link multiple projects to ensure overarching environmental and sustainability initiatives are implemented and long-term opportunities are achieved
4. Maintain relationships with regulators, clients, and subcontractors
5. Develop and sustain relationships with local stakeholders
6. Investigate and report incidents to the Environmental Manager and/or E&S Business Partner
7. Ensure the environmental management system adheres to evolving standards, legislation, and client requirements
8. Embed sustainability within projects
9. Ensure on-site compliance with environmental legislation and coach teams in applying controls and mitigations
10. Generate innovative approaches with both short and long-term impacts
Job Requirements:
11. Significant experience in environmental management, particularly within the construction industry
12. Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, licences, and consent applications
13. Experience managing people or teams
14. Educated to degree level in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field
15. Understanding of ecological matters and environmental law
16. Membership in PIEEM or IEMA
17. Commercial awareness
18. Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel
19. Proficient in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
20. Good interpersonal skills
Desirable:
21. Internal environmental auditor qualification
22. Competence as an ecological surveyor for at least one protected species
23. Master's degree in a relevant field
24. NEBOSH H&S Diploma or equivalent
25. Knowledge of the construction industry
