The East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (EMNODN) is looking for an experienced Neonatal Nurse/ Midwife to work as part of the EMNODN Senior Team as an Associate Director/ Deputy Lead Nurse. The successful applicant will be required to work collaboratively with the eleven constituent neonatal units within the East Midlands, the five Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems and Integrated Care Boards, the Midlands Regional Commissioning Team, the Midlands Perinatal Team, and the National Maternity and Neonatal Transformation Board. The post holder will have extensive knowledge and skills with regard to governance and workforce for which they will hold responsibility.

The EMNODN is hosted by Northampton General Hospital and is accountable to the EMNODN Board which is made up of executives from the Constituent Trusts, the ICBs, the Midlands Perinatal Network, and the Midlands Specialised Commissioning Team. The successful applicant will be expected to work from home and to travel extensively across the East Midlands and further afield if required.

The post is full time, however part time or job share will be considered.


Main duties of the job

The post is responsible for contributing to the operation and the development of the East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (EMNODN) which covers 7 Acute NHS Trusts, 11 Acute Hospitals, 5 Integrated Care Boards, 5 Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems, 1 Ambulance Trust, and the Midland Specialised Service Commissioning Organisation. The EMNODN covers some 39,876 live births per annum with around 4,307 admissions to neonatal services per year. The post holder will: work collaboratively with the ODN Director/Lead Nurse, ODN Clinical Leads, Service Specialist commissioners, Integrated Care Boards, and the Network stakeholders to identify and deliver the key deliverables. Be a very experienced leader with the ability to manage a range of challenges including collaboration with acute hospital providers, working across organisational boundaries. Work alongside the Network Director/ Lead Nurse, and the Network Clinical Leads to meet the aims of the EMNODN, and its stakeholders, to ensure their continued development. Be visible and accessible, and provide forward thinking, clinical professional leadership tone on neonatal nursing staff at all levels across the region. Proactively engage with neonatal service leads across the region in order to develop and deliver modern, effective, safe and sustainable services which are reflective of national policy. Lead on workforce and governance across the Network. Be able to act and adapt practice in response to complex situations.


Job responsibilities

The postholder will: maintain an active professional registration, abide by the appropriate Code of Conduct, and ensure full compliance with revalidation requirements, with an emphasis on appropriate updating of skills and knowledge appropriate and relevant to the post. Adhere to the host Trust strategy, policies and procedures and promote the core values of both the Trust and Network. Use their expert nursing knowledge to provide strategic leadership and advice to support the development of nurse staffing models which support sustainable and high-quality care in neonatal services. Will work alongside and deputise for the Network Director/Lead Nurse, to continually improve, and develop, successful strategies to address the local, regional and national neonatal strategic agendas. Work as part of the Network Senior Team, which comprises, Network Director/Lead Nurse and Clinical Leads. Provide professional and clinical leadership to multi-professionals working across the ODN. Will be responsible for the delivery of any nationally mandated outputs in collaboration with the Network Director/Lead Nurse. Will champion a culture of improvement, safety and governance through robust governance arrangements, contributing to ODN development, and supporting providers through benchmarking and sharing of best practice. Be specifically accountable for the allocation of national workforce funding allocations across 11 neonatal units, in order to achieve neonatal service development commitments on behalf of the Regional and National Team. Be able to challenge practice if required within either the Network Team or in one of the constituent Trusts within the Network. Become familiar with each units policies and guidelines for practice/procedures, and abide by, and contribute to, the further development of them. Ensure that confidentiality is promoted and maintained at all times commensurate with the role, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the Trust and ODN-wide polices as well as the Network Data sharing agreement and current legislation including GDPR.


Person Specification

* Significant neonatal experience, OR appropriate professional experience.
* Current first level NMC registration as a Nurse/Midwife
* Qualified in Specialty - recognised qualification in neonatal care, e.g. ENB 405 or equivalent, OR similar appropriate professional experience

* Significant neonatal experience, OR appropriate professional experience.
* Recent experience and significant experience at a Band 8a level or above, OR similar appropriate senior professional experience
* At least a 1st Degree in nursing or other health related topic
* Master's degree or extensive evidence of working at a master's level with the ability/commitment to undertake a health care related higher degree (MA/MSc) and complete it within 4-5 years
* Extensive experience of managing an NHS Clinical Team
* Extensive evidence of working with regional and/ or national teams
* Good understanding of neonatal workforce requirements and development
* Experience within contracting processes
* Ability to manage a budget
* Experience of supporting staff to develop services
* Track record of leading/developing service improvement projects
* Good knowledge of current neonatal nursing practice and professional nursing issues or associated professional attributes
* Evidence of up-to-date skills and is clinically competent in current role
* Excellent leadership skills
* Ability to produce accurate, concise written reports
* Ability to work unsupervised/independently
* Ability to implement and effect change
* Able to demonstrate good multidisciplinary team working
* Experience working for an Operational or Clinical Network
* Published articles/research (or contributor to)
* Experience of guideline/policy writing
* Leadership course/module, or similar recognised qualification
