Job summary

Victoria Surgery has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive receptionist to join our team on apart-time basis for 27 hours per week, worked on 3 to 4 days on a 6 week rota. The receptionist plays a pivotal role in the experience of patients at our practice, helping them to access the right services and dealing with their queries face-to-face, online and by telephone.

General practice is a challenging environment that requires a calm and caring approach with the ability to work under pressure. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated team player who has customer service/patient experience and offers excellent communication skills.

Short telephone interviews will be held week commencing 7th July by prior arrangement, with face to face interviews to follow.

Main duties of the job

Greeting and directing all patients. Making appointments. Answering queries and complaints from patients and outside agencies, signposting to the appropriate staff member as appropriate. Accepting, issuing and handing out letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc. Advising patients of practice procedures. Registering new patients. Accurately maintaining patient database and records, photocopying, filing and scanning.

Victoria Surgery is a well-established and friendly practice in the centre of town caring for a patient population of approximately 11,000. Our team recognises the importance of a good work-life balance.

Our practice team consists of 9 list holding GPs and a dedicated clinical team including, clinical pharmacists, nurse practitioner, 1 nurse and a trainee nursing associate. We are supported by a full management, administration and dispensary team.

We are part of the Bury St Edmunds Primary Care Network and the successful candidate will work alongside a teamincluding paramedics, social prescriber, health and wellbeing coach, care coordinators and pharmacy technician.

Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations. Ability to work as part of a team. Strong IT and administration skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave. Desirable

Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable.
