Directorate: Place and Communities Pay Level: 5 £30,160 fully inclusive of Local Weighting Allowance Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: 37 hours per week Location: Observatory House/ Slough Hybrid DBS requirement: Basic The closing date for applications is midnight on 3rd March 2026 Interviews will be held week commencing 12th March 2026 What you’ll be doing: This is a practical, varied role that combines site-based inspections with office work, offering the chance to contribute directly to the safety and upkeep of the local highway network. You will help ensure roads, footways, and street furniture are kept safe, compliant, and well maintained for the benefit of the community. You will carry out routine inspections, identify and record defects, and assist in deciding appropriate follow-up actions in line with council procedures. The role involves ordering and monitoring repair works and supporting the supervision of contractors on site, helping to ensure works are completed safely, to the required standard, and with minimal disruption to the public. You will respond to enquiries and complaints from residents, councillors, and utility companies, attend site meetings, and maintain clear and accurate records. You will also assist with inspecting utility works, issuing statutory notices where required, and checking that works comply with relevant legislation and guidance. Additional responsibilities include checking invoices, supporting audits, and assisting with legal and insurance matters by helping to gather information, prepare evidence, and maintain documentation. You will work closely with colleagues across the service and contribute to applications, reports, and public correspondence. Annual increments, where applicable, are usually payable on 1st April each year, subject to six months service in the post, until the maximum spinal column point of the level has been reached.
