Siemens is creating its first UK based Rail Industry Hub on the outskirts of Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire. With an initial contract to assemble nearly 50 trains to service the Piccadilly line on the London Underground we are starting to recruit up to 300 skilled technical and support colleagues in our Manufacturing Facility.
In the near future follow-on work is expected to bring this number of trains into the hundreds, along with an expansion on the site into maintenance and overhaul activities displaying a long-term commitment to the area and growth in employment and career opportunities.
We are looking for a Purchasing Operative with a focus on indirect materials to join the Logistics team in Goole. As an indirect Purchasing Operative you will be responsible for ensuring the cost-efficient and on-time supply of indirect materials, according to planned and reactive factory requirements.
You'll make a difference by...
* You will form part of a team responsible for successfully processing purchase requests and then ensuring the on-time arrival of both direct and indirect material to site
* You will engage with various other stakeholders (both internal and external) in the supply chain to improve the flow of material, communicating to discuss their requirements, providing updates or raising concerns as appropriate
* You will have a keen eye for detail, be comfortable analysing data, including sales and consumption data from vendor managed inventory solutions, and be able to receive and relay information from a variety of sources to appropriate stakeholders
Your success will be grounded by...
* A strong working knowledge of the material purchasing process, from RFQ’s, supplier negotiation, purchase order creation and maintenance to product delivery, and the ability to handle invoice discrepancies, and ensure timely payments
* Strong data analysis skills with intermediate to advanced Excel competency, good I.T. skills, and experience working with MRP systems such as SAP
* Excellent communication and people skills, with an eye for detail
* Confident negotiation skills and experience in introducing cost savings to the materials supply chain
* A pro-active nature and an ability to be a self-starter
It would be beneficial to have:
* Purchasing experience of indirect or direct material in the Rail industry
* Previous experience of Vendor Managed Inventory (including KANBAN solutions) and/or working in a manufacturing environment
* Monitoring supplier performance and KPI’s using appropriate tools and techniques
* International supply chain experience
* CIPS qualification (or working towards)
