Senior Legal Counsel (maternity cover – 1 year fixed term) – commercial contracts lawyer

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel for a one year maternity cover, to become part of the global legal, company secretarial and compliance team (“L&S”).
You will report to the Group Legal Director based in the head office in the UK and work closely with senior stakeholders, including divisional and functional heads.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as a key contact for senior stakeholders in a range of business units and corporate support departments to help influence and implement business strategy and direction.
• Review, draft and negotiate high-value, complex commercial contracts with customers, sales intermediaries, and other key business partners.
• Supporting on L&S change projects that underpin the business’s key objectives across multiple disciplines.
• Support operational and commercial functions with day-to-day legal queries and issues.
• Assist in maintaining the L&S team’s templates, precedents and other know-how materials.
• Provide practical solutions to complex legal problems in the manner of an experienced business partner.
• Procure and manage external specialist counsel (as required)
• Support the Group General Counsel and Company Secretary, Group Legal Director and other senior lawyers as required, both in the UK and internationally.
Key requirements
• Qualified solicitor (England and Wales) with 5+ years’ experience in delivering pragmatic, commercial legal advice in a demanding and evolving business environment.
• Excellent technical knowledge of commercial law and drafting skills.
• Superior analytical skills and a creative, flexible approach to problem solving.
• An ability to interact with people at all levels in the business.
• Display impeccable integrity and a willingness and ability to lead by example.
• A deep understanding of the challenges of a fast-moving, revenue generating business (ideally with experience in-house in the manufacturing and/or engineering sectors).
• An appetite to continually learn and share your experience and knowledge.
Preferred
Experience in any of the following:
• data protection and privacy
• real estate and property
• company secretarial, M&A and or corporate governance
• competition and antitrust
• software licensing
• working knowledge of intellectual property in commercial contracts
• fluency in another language
