Marine Water Quality Officer – 32656 at Environment Agency
We need a Marine Water Quality Officer to support evidence‑based decisions in marine environments, modelling, and data analysis. The role involves assessing the impact of discharges and modelling bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and summarize complex reports to support decision-making.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to protect the environment.
* Summarize and communicate technical work and escalate challenges.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use data to inform water quality models.
* Apply sound records‑management principles.
* Contribute to the work of the team and wider organization.
* Participate in incident response and incident‑management duties.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience in data analysis and, ideally, knowledge of modelling software.
* Proficiency with Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS, and specialist packages such as Mike or Cormix.
* A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; working towards professional membership is desirable.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for occasional national meetings.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to convey technical information to non‑technical audiences.
Position Details
* Two positions: one permanent and one fixed‑term for 6 months.
* National role with flexible/hybrid working arrangements.
* Location: EA Office base; location is flexible.
