About Us East Staffordshire Borough Council is a high performing authority and a great mix of town and country. We also offer an attractive package of benefits including: flexible working hours generous annual leave opportunities for hybrid working free car parking car salary sacrifice scheme (launching soon) Local Government pension scheme The Role We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental Health Officer or Food Safety Officer to join our Environmental Health Team. If you are a graduate Environmental Health Officer or due to complete your degree shortly we would encourage you to apply for our Graduate Environmental Health Officer role which is a career grade up to Grade 8. The postholder will be responsible for a wide and varied range of duties that include ensuring compliance against food safety, health and safety, and public health legislation along with involvement with our Primary Authority Partnership. You will be responsible for undertaking food and safety inspections and interventions, including a large range of approved premises. You will need to use professional judgement to provide clear advice and undertake enforcement action where necessary alongside investigating complaints and sampling. There will be lots of opportunities to develop and enhance your knowledge and skills within the team including opportunities to be involved in housing standards enforcement. We encourage applications from newly qualified graduates that have recently gained their CIEH Certificate of Registration This is a graded post and the starting salary will be subject to qualifications and level of experience. Key Requirements You must have a Bsc/Msc in Environmental Health or Higher certificate in food premises inspection and be an EHRB/CIEH Registered Practitioner. Alternatively working towards a qualification in the next 6 months You should have practical experience of working within Environmental Health with a proven track record in Food, Housing or Health and Safety and experience of managing complaints informally and formally. Skills & Experience You must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team. You should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret legislation and enforce it in a balanced way. The successful applicant should also possess the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
