Job Overview

Hybrid role, full‑time, permanent, with flexibility for part‑time. Base location will be one of our offices in Peterborough, Huntingdon, Cambridge, Norwich or Lincoln, depending on your location. Salary circa £40k, depending on skill and experience. This role involves helping shape the future of sustainable water management through data, innovation, and hydrological insight.

Responsibilities

As a Hydrologist, you’ll support the development of the Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) supply forecast. You’ll work with complex hydrological and climate datasets, analyse stochastic river flows, climate projections such as eFLaG, and modelled reservoir and system outputs from advanced water resource simulation models to provide critical insights that inform strategic decision‑making.

You’ll analyse complex datasets, develop and run water resource simulation models, and assess the performance of future water resource options to support strategic decision‑making within the WRMP. You’ll engage with modelling tools and approaches, contribute to wider hydrological strategies, and help improve the efficiency and quality of data processes through automation and continuous improvement. Your role also includes regulatory reporting, data governance, and driving innovation through digital transformation and industry best practice.

Qualifications & Experience

You’ll have a degree in a relevant analytical discipline such as Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences or Physical Geography, ideally supported by postgraduate study in Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.

Strong analytical and data‑management skills, with experience or interest in coding and statistical analysis using tools such as Python or R. Experience with GIS or watershed/geological software such as ArcGIS or QGIS is beneficial.

Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information through high‑quality reports and presentations, working collaboratively across teams. Organised, proactive, detail‑focused, comfortable managing dynamic workloads, able to solve problems independently and contribute positively as part of a wider team.

Professional body membership or progress towards chartership would be advantageous.

Benefits

* Full private healthcare
* 25 days leave, rising with service + Bank Holidays, with the option to swap Christmas and Easter holidays for those celebrated by your religion
* A flexible working culture
* Competitive pension scheme – we double‑match your contributions up to 7%
* Life Assurance at eight times your salary
* Personal Accident cover – up to 5x your salary
* Bonus Scheme

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to work on some of the most important long‑term environmental and water resource challenges facing the UK today. As a Hydrologist within Strategic Asset Planning, you’ll play a direct role in shaping resilient, sustainable water supply strategies that will support communities, businesses and the environment for generations to come.

You’ll work with cutting‑edge hydrological and climate data, advanced modelling tools and innovative planning approaches to influence real strategic decisions across the region. The role offers a unique blend of technical analysis, environmental impact, and future‑focused planning, giving you the chance to apply your expertise to meaningful, real‑world challenges.

Alongside exciting and purposeful work, you’ll collaborate with experienced specialists across Water Resources and Strategic Asset Management, gaining exposure to major strategic programmes and opportunities for professional development. If you’re passionate about sustainability, data‑driven problem solving and making a tangible difference, this is a chance to build a rewarding career while helping secure the future of water resources.
