Job Description
EV Charging Standards & Compliance Specialist - East Midlands - Hybrid (3 days in HQ) - £40k-£55k + Benefits
Every year, innovative EV charging technology fails to reach the UK market not because it doesn't work, but because it doesn't comply. Our client exists to fix that. This role sits at the heart of that work, providing the technical standards expertise that helps manufacturers, local authorities and infrastructure developers get it right.
The organisation
Our client has over 20 years of experience in transport decarbonisation. Operating across both public and private sectors, they combine R&D with technical consultancy to help industry, government, and innovative technology companies navigate the transition to zero emission transport.
They work with charge point manufacturers, local authorities, infrastructure developers, and technology companies entering the UK market, providing independent technical authority at every stage from product development to deployment.
The role
This is a senior technical specialist position within the organisation's Technical Innovation team, focused on EV charging infrastructure standards, grid connection requirements, and regulatory compliance.
The team operates at the intersection of R&D and consultancy. Research is how they learn; consultancy is how they apply that knowledge. As the team has grown and demand for this particular technical specialism has increased significantly, they are now looking to bring in an additional specialist who can contribute immediately, working alongside and mentored by an existing subject matter expert.
This is not a role where the fundamentals can be learned on the job. The successful candidate will need a working knowledge of the relevant standards from day one, with the depth and detail of that knowledge developed further over time.
What you'll be doing
* Acting as a technical authority on EV charging infrastructure products, services, standards and regulations
* Conducting independent technology appraisals and technical due diligence on charging solutions entering the UK market
* Advising on grid connection standards including G98/G99, and EV equipment standards including IEC 61851, IEC 62196, IEC 61980, ISO 15118 and BS 7671
* Developing technical and procurement specifications for public and private sector clients, including local authorities
* Supporting procurement and deployment processes through supplier evaluation, site feasibility assessments and installation audits
* Leading and contributing to collaborative R&D projects across innovative charging technologies including V2X, wireless charging and battery-supported infrastructure
* Providing market analysis, technology appraisals and product market entry support for clients bringing solutions to the UK
* Contributing to proposal writing, methodology development and business development activity
What we're looking for

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to translate complex technical content for a range of audiences
* Experience managing technical, multi-disciplinary projects
Desirable
* Background in innovative technology organisations, charge point manufacturers or active infrastructure deployment
* Knowledge of V2X, wireless charging or alternative low emission technologies
