Offer description

Location:UWC Atlantic College,Llantwit Major, Wales

Salary: £4,250 (fixed fee) + full room & board

UWC is a deliberately diverse, mission-driven international college with a strong commitment to the educational principles of Kurt Hahn, its founder, and a passionate belief in the importance of education as a force for good in the world - to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

Since 1962, UWC has entrusted students with authentic responsibility and guided them to make appropriate choices and to learn from their mistakes. It is through this trust, responsibility and accountability that students learn that they can make a difference (‘You are needed’) and that through effort and engagement they can achieve far more than they ever imagined (‘There is more in you than you think’).

UWC Atlantic College is recruiting for a Programme Instructor for the Global Leadership Experience UWC short course.

GLE Junior is a foundational course in leadership and global systems for students aged 13–15. As a bespoke course designed specifically for younger teens, it has a unique identity, but also serves as a good stepping stone to the senior GLE programme and a UWC education at one of the UWC colleges. The focus is on play-based systems learning, nature connection, and building self-confidence through creativity and collaboration.

As a team of 3, you will bridge the gap between experiential activity leader and teacher, using gamified learning and storytelling to introduce younger teens to systems thinking, global perspectives, and teambuilding.

The Instructor role requires high energy and a developmental mindset.

Reporting to: GLE Course Director

Responsibilities

* Experiential facilitation: Deliver the curriculum through immersive activities, interactive workshops, games, role-play and simulations (e.g., Council of All Beings), somatic practices and movement, and creative practices and storytelling. You must be comfortable managing high-energy groups and adapting content for a younger audience.
* Developmental scaffolding: Actively support the social‑emotional growth of younger teens (13–15), helping them navigate new friendships and cultural differences, understand their own identity, and develop their leadership capabilities.
* Activity leadership: arts & crafts, nature walks, and evening social activities.
* Residential Pastoral Support: Act as a secondary support figure in the student houses. While dedicated Residential Supervisors hold primary pastoral responsibility, you will help to ensure younger students feel safe, settled, and supported away from home.

Skills and preferred experience

ESSENTIAL:

* Demonstrated experience working with the 13–15 age group (Middle School / Lower Secondary).
* Strong toolkit of 3 or more of the following: energisers, team‑building games, simulation design, nature and field‑based activities, theatre‑based learning, global case studies.
* Asset: Experience in theatre, outdoor education, or youth development is highly desirable.
* Compliance & Safety
o Right to Work: Must already hold the Right to Work in the UK. (Note: This fixed‑term role is not eligible for visa sponsorship).
o Safeguarding: UWC Atlantic is committed to safeguarding. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check and rigorous reference checks.
o First Aid: Valid First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one before start).

How to apply

UWC Atlantic is an inclusive organisation and we strive to create a diverse and inclusive team. They are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds. UWC Atlantic welcomes applications from individuals working outside the education sector with the relevant experience and expertise. If you like the sound of the role, but don’t believe you quite meet all our criteria, we would still encourage you to apply.
