North Yorkshire Police is currently inviting applications to work within the Digital Forensics Unit based at Police Headquarters. This is a key role within the department in which you will be supporting, enhancing, and identifying new investigative avenues for officers and helping to bring offenders to justice. You will form part of a fast-paced team dealing with the interrogation of a wide range of mobile devices to obtain the best evidence possible for a wide variety of criminal cases. On a typical day you will be extracting, analysing and repairing mobile devices and liaising with a broad range of police officers, staff, and external organisations. In This Role, Your Main Responsibilities Will Be: To provide North Yorkshire Police with an evidentially sound digital data investigation capability To work collaboratively to the required international standards (ISO) and Forensic Codes of Practice Utilise a broad range of complex and technical equipment to forensically examine mobile phones, memory cards, GPS devices and other submissions, utilising proprietary software to required standards. Conduct physical examinations of items submitted: where necessary disassembling devices and undertaking repairs to forensically acquire data in accordance with best practice and national guidelines. Photograph exhibits and record all processes contemporaneously. Maintain the integrity and continuity of evidence with subsequent presentation at judicial proceedings. Examine and interpret forensically secured data in accordance with criteria set by investigators. You will on a regular basis be required to review graphically extreme and traumatic images/videos of Child Sexual Abuse Material. Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required: A degree in either Digital Forensics, Computer Science, Criminal Investigations, or recent and relevant experience in these fields, is preferred, although not essential. You should possess a good up-to-date knowledge of mobile communication devices and operating systems, including Android and iOS. You must have knowledge of relevant legislation which impacts upon Digital Forensics, including Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000, Investigatory Powers Act (IPA) 2016 and ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) Principles of Digital Based Evidence. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both through written reports and orally, and be able to organise and prioritise casework.
