Job overview
We are delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for NMC registered nurses or midwives to work within the Health Visiting Service as part of a skill mix team, supporting the delivery of integrated, evidence-informed services for children and their families, with a focus on prevention, promotion, and early intervention.
Applications are welcome from experienced, newly qualified nurses and midwives and students nearing the end of their training. Posts will be based across Bristol and successful candidates will be required to be flexible to work across a defined locality.
Main duties of the job
* Work collaboratively with other agencies, for example early years settings, to promote health and well-being and improve early identification of need and risks to child outcomes
* .Empower individuals, families, and communities to influence and access services, information and skills and act as an advocate particularly for those families who find services difficult to access.
* Work in partnership with families who need additional support to ensure their child is ‘ready to learn’ at transition to school.
* Actively participate in supporting students of all levels through the provision of placement support, supervision, assessment, and development opportunities.
* Support the local implementation of the Healthy Child Programme and specific public health programmes such as Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home-visiting (MECSH) and UNICEF BFI.
* Support parents to understand the development needs of their children including the importance of the home learning environment and early brain development.
* Deliver specified ‘Support Packages’ to families, which are short term, time limited interventions.
* Utilise group facilitation skills at the drop in baby hubs and cultivate an environment which supports parental self-efficacy and self-compassion.
* Lead structured, evidence informed groups in a community venue such as children’s centre or deliver groups in partnership with a Children’s Centre Worker.

Person specification
Education and training requirements
* Bsc (Hons) Degree in nursing or midwifery with current NMC registration or be awaiting registration confirmation
* Evidence of successful study at post graduate level.
* Evidence of supporting students in practice.
Skills, experience and knowledge required
* Demonstrate an understanding of the theory underpinning public health nursing including the impact of wider determinants of health and parenting capacity on child outcomes both in the short term and long term
* Demonstrate a high standard of communication and interpersonal skills in a range of situations.
* Demonstrate an ability to remain focussed on the child and child outcomes when working in partnership with families.
* Evidence of a clear understanding of the safeguarding role of Community Public Health Nurses – Health Visiting, within a universal service and multi-agency context
* Demonstrate an ability to utilise decision making skills and apply a solution focussed approach to problem solving whilst considering wider organisational and business needs.
* Demonstrate a willingness to undertake further training e.g. in group facilitation skills, leading a multi-agency meeting, child development including early brain development, UNICEF.
* Demonstrate an ability to work independently but also to be able to function effectively within a team
* Group facilitation skills – either with parents or students or colleagues.

* This role requires the post holder to be mobile, visiting several locations across a locality so the post holder must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to an appropriate means of transport to undertake the job effectively.
