Overview
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be required to work unsupervised in remote geographic locations and be accountable for the completion of planned and reactive mechanical tasks within agreed timescales, quality, and cost parameters. You will manage and prioritise your own workload effectively and build and maintain relationships with operational customers, colleagues, suppliers, and contract partners.
You will adhere to the Health and Safety policy and standards, identify hazards, provide mitigation, and report onto the company hazard database to ensure the cause of the hazard is removed.
Responsibilities
* Supervise approved Contract Partners, providing risk assessments and method statements where a permit to work is required for a given task.
* Use a Toughbook and/or iPad to capture all work activity and job status in line with workflow processes.
* Assist in the development and training of apprentices and less experienced team members.
* Install and commission new plant and equipment to relevant standards.
* Diagnose and repair faults on systems and plant.
* Proactively identify and report follow-on work or areas for enhancement.
* Conduct own risk assessments and create appropriate method statements when required to safely carry out maintenance activities.
* Specify parts and equipment required for procurement as part of day-to-day role.

Location & Work Type
Location: across the Yorkshire region. This is a mobile worker role; your home location determines the area of Yorkshire that you will cover. Work type: Permanent, 37 hours per week. Out-of-hours, weekend work, and bank holidays are part of a structured stand-by rota. After training, you will be assessed for working independently and may participate in an out-of-hours standby rota (evenings, weekends, and overnight callouts, no more than 1 week in every 4).
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* Required: Recognised Mechanical craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either a City & Guilds / ONC / BTEC / NVQ / HNC / HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Eng Tech.
* Full valid driving licence (no more than six points) due to site visits across the Yorkshire Region.
* Desirable: HNC in Mechanical discipline; CompEx 11.
* Mandatory experience/knowledge: Safe isolation to current IET regulations; time-served industrial mechanical fitter; working with rotating equipment; ability to produce maintenance reports; fault finding on mechanical systems.
* Desirable experience/knowledge: Maintaining and repairing pumps and related equipment; gearboxes, compressors; maintenance per PSSR; working with steam systems, chemical plant; hot work, fabrication and welding; operating lifting equipment; pneumatics and hydraulics.
Other Requirements
Ideally, you will have prior Mechanical Fitter experience in the water or wastewater sectors or broader utilities, process, or manufacturing sectors. You may need to work in confined spaces and must pass medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests.
