Job Title: Environmental Advisor
Location: Falmer (Brighton) Hybrid working model (2 days a week in office/site)
Salary: up to £45,000 depending on experience
Job Summary:
Environmental Advisors provide project level environmental risk management to support the design, maintenance and construction of a wide range of projects.
Working within the Enabling Team in Engineering Technical Services (ETS) the role involves providing expert specialist technical support to projects from design conception to construction completion; providing practical solutions to ensure environmental risks are managed through Project Delivery, as well as seeking opportunities to enhance the man-made and natural environment.
Environmental advice and support is also given to the broader business when requested.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Undertake environmental assessments.
2. Accurate report preparation, including reasoned arguments supported by evidence as required..
3. Contribute to effective and demonstrable stakeholder management to ensure “buy in” from stakeholders and environmental regulators.
4. Responsible for producing own work to a high standard.
5. With senior staff support, solve problems including designing appropriate mitigation strategies.
6. Work will require travel in the UK to office and / or sites.
7. The role will entail some field work and may require out of hours (early morning, evening and weekend) working.
8. Undertake own continuing professional development under guidance from line managers.
Skills and Competencies:
9. Degree level or similar experience (essential)
10. Relevant degree and Post Graduate qualification (desirable)
11. Professional Qualification (associate or ideally chartered) with appropriate Professional body, e.g. IEMA/IES (desirable)
12. Full driving licence.
13. Competent in MS Office.
14. Excellent organisational skills.
15. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
16. Ability to work on own initiative on technical matters.
17. Have technical skill in relevant specialist fields, and/or in engaging and managing specialists undertaking relevant studies, e.g. landscape, noise, odour assessment, water/air quality, waste, nuisance, planning etc..
18. Experience of being part of a team of environmental scientists and specialists in preparing environmental appraisals and also preferably Environmental Impact Assessments.
19. Demonstrate understanding of current UK Environmental Legislation, policy and guidance.
20. Understand other roles within the team, the role and objectives of the team in the business. Co-operates with other areas in the wider interests of the business.
21. Build key relationships with Local Authorities, contractors, consultants, Enabling Team – ecologists, planners, environmental advisors, design engineers, project management, Strategy Leads.
