Job Overview
The Lochaber Integrated Midwifery Team is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic midwife who wishes to work as part of a small, friendly local team in a beautiful part of the country. This fixed‑term post, covering maternity leave, offers an ideal opportunity to experience remote and rural midwifery practice within Lochaber in the West Highlands of Scotland.
Responsibilities
The team is based in Fort William and provides caseload midwifery care to around 200 pregnant women annually, offering excellent continuity. Births are carried out within the Midwifery Unit at Belford Hospital or at home for those following primary midwife‑led care. For the management, care and transfer of women with more complex needs and sick neonates, the team works closely with NHS Highland Obstetric, Midwifery and Neonatal teams based in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. The midwives work flexibly to provide a 24/7 service and have a commitment to on‑call working.
Qualifications
Interested applicants should be NMC registered and ideally be educated to degree level or have relevant clinical experience. Proficiency in NIPE is an advantage. The successful applicant will be a good team worker but also confident to work independently.
A current valid UK driving licence is essential, as travel between various work locations is required to meet the operational requirements of the service.
Benefits
Effective from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. Part‑time hours will be adjusted on a pro‑rata basis. There will be an increase in the hourly rate to ensure that pay remains unaffected.
