Job Title: Lead Consumer Finance Data Team Associate

Division: Supervision, Policy and Competition (SPC)

Directorate: Consumer Finance

1. Salary: National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £60,700 to £79,000 and London from £66,600 to £86,600 per annum (salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services.

SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition).

The Consumer Finance Directorate oversees policy and supervision for over 30,000 firms across consumer credit, credit unions and claims management,, aiming to ensure fair access to credit, early support for those in financial difficulty, and timely, high-quality debt advice.

You will play a vital role in developing our analysis of a new Product Sales Data return leading a group of analysts and data experts, sharing insights and supporting the development of the team. This will also give you the opportunity to lead on aspects of the Consumer Finance Data Strategy, growing your experience in designing solutions and approaches to problems that deliver high business value for frontline colleagues

Role responsibilities

6. Set a clear strategic vision by identifying and prioritising the highest value analysis, ensuring work aligns with the FCA and Consumer Finance strategy and directly supports organisational objectives

7. Drive impact through collaboration by engaging stakeholders and working closely with frontline teams across the Consumer Finance and Data, Technology and Innovation directorates, and the wider FCA, to deliver joined up insight

8. Solve complex problems creatively by developing innovative solutions that respond to the scale and sophistication of the data and analytical challenges

9. Unlock value from major datasets by working with one of the largest data collections the FCA receives and applying novel analytical approaches to generate powerful insights

10. Lead and enable high performance by overseeing a large, skilled team of analysts and delivering high value outcomes through others

11. Shape outcomes across the organisation by applying strategic judgement to focus effort on the most valuable work, demonstrating how analysis supports all four pillars of the FCA strategy

Skills required

Minimum:

12. Experience of complex data analysis

13. Experience using advance SQL and Python / Pyspark experience is desirable

14. Experience of communicating with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation including translating complex technical information for a non-technical audience

Essential:

15. Innovation – able to identify solutions to complex problems quickly and with limited information available

16. Strong communication skills, written and verbal – able to present analysis effectively in a clear and compelling way to a diverse audience, presenting complex technical issues in a clear and digestible format and providing constructive feedback to team members

17. Experience of prioritising your own and others workloads – manages time effectively and uses sound judgement to identify and prioritise the highest value work.

18. Ability to manage a broad range of stakeholders – coordinating department activities with internal stakeholders, and to flex your style to build consensus and influence a range of diverse stakeholders

19. Strong sense of accountability – you should be able to demonstrate that you take ownership of problems and drive forward pragmatic action-based solutions
