Medical Secretary

The role is a Band 3 Medical Secretary position working 22.5 hours per week, based in the Dermatology Department. Applicants should hold a recognised secretarial qualification or have equivalent medical secretarial experience, including audio typing.
Main duties of the job
* Provide medical secretarial support within the Dermatology team, including Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Clinical Fellows, Dermatology specialist nurses, and reception staff.
* Aid in audio typing clinical information to a high standard.
* Organise and prioritise a high workload, meeting tight deadlines in a pressure‑sensitive environment.
* Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information without compromising patient or Trust privacy.
* Communicate effectively with clinicians, patients and colleagues to deliver excellent customer care.
* Develop and learn new skills and competencies as required.
Qualifications
* Typing qualifications to RSA II standard or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of medical terminology or AMSPAR qualification.
* Good general standard of literacy and numeracy.
Experience
* Secretarial experience in a clinical environment.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Outlook, Excel).
* Experience using NHS systems.

* Ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain concentration under pressure.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work on one's own initiative.
* Customer care skills, including diplomacy and sensitivity.
