The starting salary for this permanent, full-time position is £47,142 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

This role is open to hybrid working and as a team we split our time between collaborating with colleagues in the office for a minimum of two days a week and working from home or remotely.

Surrey County Council is looking for a motivated and forward thinking Senior Transport Officer to support the delivery, development and expansion of our innovative and popular Surrey Connect Digital Demand Responsive Transport (DDRT) services. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of sustainable travel across the county, improving accessibility for our residents and helping to reduce social and geographical isolation.
You will take a leading role in monitoring, contract management, service performance, and the day to day operational oversight of our Surrey Connect on Demand Transport Network which is operated by up to 28 electric minibuses and delivered by three not for profit community transport providers.
Your key responsibilities as our Senior Transport Officer will include:
Overseeing and managing the Surrey Connect DDRT services, ensuring high-quality, efficient and reliable operation
Working closely with transport providers, vehicle suppliers, software scheduling partners, maintenance contractors and local communities
Leading the rollout of future phases of the Surrey Connect programme
Monitoring performance data, producing reports, and identifying opportunities for service improvements, passenger growth and operational efficiencies
Supporting financial management of the DDRT revenue budget
Identifying and implementing new ways to enhance customer experience and maximise best value for money
Supporting strategic planning and providing expert advice on passenger transport and DDRT across the Council
Building strong partnerships with internal teams, the public, and external organisations including central government, bus operators, local authorities, and other stakeholdersThis role is perfect for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, solving complex operational challenges, and helping to deliver greener, smarter and more inclusive transport solutions for Surrey residents.

Your Application
In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:
A degree (transport, engineering, planning, geography, ICT, economics, environment, or similar) OR equivalent relevant experience
Experience working directly with public transport operators, including a good understanding of relevant legislation and operational practice
Skilled in contract and contractor management
Analytical, organised and confident using data to inform decisions
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence partners, build relationships and deliver service improvements
Comfortable managing multiple technical projects simultaneously
