The Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team focused on developing and improving bespoke technical solutions. This role will involve creating new designs and updating existing ones, producing clear and accurate technical documentation to support manufacturing and delivery.
The position will suit an engineer with a strong design background who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle — from interpreting specifications through to supporting build, testing, and quality assurance. The role offers exposure to both mechanical and electrical design elements, with opportunities to broaden skills across multiple engineering disciplines.
This is a varied and hands-on position, ideal for someone looking to develop their capabilities within a technically diverse environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and detail mechanical designs for specialist equipment and systems.
* Produce technical proposals and supporting documentation based on project requirements.
* Create detailed drawings, schematics, and manufacturing documentation using 2D and 3D CAD tools.
* Select components, compile Bills of Materials, and support costing activities.
* Communicate design concepts and updates with engineering and commercial teams.
* Manage design projects from initial concept through to delivery.
* Support manufacturing activities and provide technical guidance where required.
* Participate in equipment testing and quality assurance processes.
The Candidate
Holds a qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (HNC, HND, BEng, or MEng).
Previous experience in an engineering design role.
Knowledge of fabrication methods, including sheet metal and welding, with an understanding of GD&T.
Experience using 2D and 3D CAD software (such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar).
Understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications.
A collaborative team player with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
Salary
£40,000 – £50,000, depending on experience and suitability.
