Step Teachers are hiring for a Behaviour Support Assistant in Bury! Position Details
* Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
* Location: Secondary Alternative Provision, Bury
* Start Date: September 2025
* Working Hours: Full-time – Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
* Contract Type: Expected to be temp-to-perm for the right person
* Daily Pay: £95-£110 (dependent on experience)
* Payroll: Paid directly via Step Teachers (no umbrella companies)
* Pay Parity: Equal pay with permanent staff after 12 weeks

Your Responsibilities
* Provide in-class support for pupils with SEMH needs, autism, and behavioural difficulties
* Use patience, resilience, and emotional intelligence to build rapport with vulnerable students
* Recognise signs of distress or triggers and apply calming strategies when needed
* Break down tasks into manageable steps to aid understanding and progress
* Offer one-on-one or general classroom support as needed
* Reinforce positive behaviour through encouragement and reward
* Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, families, and external professionals
* Help create a calm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students

* A detailed CV covering at least 10 years of employment or education
* Valid Right to Work in the UK and recent Proof of Address
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
* References from the past 2 years
* Overseas Police Clearance (if required)
* Some relevant experience with children or young adults showing challenging behaviour or mental health needs
