As a Motor Transport Maintenance Section Supervisor (MTMSS) you will be responsible for managing and delivering safe, effective and efficient maintenance, repair and inspection services for military vehicles and specialist equipment. The role supports the Mandatory Equipment Inspector (MEI) by ensuring all vehicles, plant and equipment are prepared for inspection, with defects rectified promptly and any mission critical non‑serviceability reported to the AOM. Duties include supervising day to day operations such as JAMES data management, vehicle servicing, repairs, workshop housekeeping, tool and equipment control and overall fleet management.
Main Duties Include:
Together with the QSHE Manager, and the MT Supervisor develop a Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental culture ensuring a robust and meaningful programme of safety awareness delivered consistently across the MTMS activities promoting a zero tolerance to unsafe behaviour. In particular, the implementation of the internal assurance regime of work place inspections, inductions and other QSHE related activities.
Manage, maintain and issue reports via the JAMES Fleet Management System meeting BFSAI requirements whilst keeping the AOM informed of performance and related issues.
What We Are Looking for:
Experience of managing UK Airfield Vehicles. C class driving licence. NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
Suitable practical knowledge and competence of airside military vehicle maintenance, repair and operation of the following vehicles: (Perhaps ex RAF Chief Tech type experience).
Level 3 NVQ HGV, MEWP (boom and scissor), GPU 90, 180, 240, Steps (pax and Engineers), JAST Air Starter Units, HLCT High Lift Catering Truck, TSU Toilet Servicing Unit, LCAR Large Capacity Aircraft Refueller, HFD Hydrant Fluid Dispensing Truck, ATLAS, General lightweight vehicles
Skills and Behaviours
Has a good working knowledge of the JAMES system. Able to communicate clearly and effectively; in particular with colleagues and senior managers. Excellent management skills including decision-making, handling conflict, providing direction and vision. Good time management and organisation skills able to work to deadlines. Ability to prioritise, delegate and coordinate tasks. Team player, share information, work for common good, self-reliance, resourceful and applies initiative.
With the ATSM, ensure all training requirements are identified, co-ordinated and maintained. Demonstrates attitude and ability to embrace knowledge, skill and personal development. Must be prepared to undertake security vetting, medical and dental checks prior to any deployment
