We’re recruiting for a well-established, family-run business that is a recognised leader within structural steel protective coatings, delivering complex commercial and infrastructure projects across the UK.
This is not a support QS role.
This position would suit an experienced Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable taking full commercial ownership of projects — from initial order through to final account — and who can operate independently without needing constant direction.
The business currently has a major London-based structural steel project underway that has fallen significantly behind programme, creating genuine commercial pressure around delays, variations, coordination, and cost recovery.
As a result, they need someone commercially strong, proactive, and confident enough to step into live projects, take control, and make an impact quickly.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing projects commercially from start to finish, including:
* Cost planning and estimating
* Budget management and commercial reporting
* Variations, claims, and delay management
* Client and subcontractor communication
* Working closely with operational, production, and site teams
* Managing projects through manufacture and site completion
* Final accounts and commercial close-out
This is a hands‑on role where you will be trusted to manage your own projects with autonomy and accountability.
What They’re Looking For
This role is best suited to someone who has:
* Experience managing projects from initial order through to final account
* Strong understanding of commercial risk, delays, and variations
* Confidence operating independently and making commercial decisions
* Experience within construction, steelwork, coatings, fabrication, or related sectors
* Strong commercial awareness and organisational ability
* A proactive mindset and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal teams
This is not the right environment for someone who needs heavy supervision or wants to remain in a purely supporting QS capacity.
Package
* £55,000 - £65,000 depending on experience
* Hybrid working
* Flexible working hours
* Car allowance or company vehicle
* Expenses covered
* 25 days holiday + bank holidays
* Long‑term progression within a stable and growing business
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
* Genuine ownership of projects
* Direct exposure to major UK commercial developments
* A business with excellent staff retention and long‑standing leadership
* Flexibility and trust instead of micromanagement
* Opportunity to come into a live, commercially challenging project and genuinely make a difference
If you’re an experienced QS looking for more ownership, autonomy, and influence over projects — this is the kind of role that rarely comes to market.
