An exciting opportunity for a band 6 staff nurse has arisen in Critical Care. Working within the CCOT role you will have the opportunity to take responsibility for triaging, co-ordinating and overseeing the organisation of patient care for acutely ill ward-based patients. You will oversee step down of patients to wards and be a credible practitioner who facilitates expert care to acutely ill or deteriorating patients in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team. You will also be responsible for facilitating and leading on the weekly tracheostomy ward rounds to enable robust and safe management of tracheostomy care planning for this specialised patient group. The role will involve delivering both informal and formal teaching on a regular basis to all members of the MDT. As this is a rotational post, in addition you will be part of a team caring for critically unwell patients, requiring level 2 and level 3 care. Our 4 critical care units consist of a total of 57 beds across two sites - Queens and King Georges and you will be required to work across site depending on service demands. We are looking for enthusiastic experienced nurses with a passion for delivering high quality care in partnership with patients and their relatives, who can demonstrate an ability to lead others.

"PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLY"

You must be able to demonstrate excellent clinical skills and evidence-based decision making. You will carry out advanced assessment and care of deteriorating patients leading to early intervention and treatment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously is essential. Formal and informal education is an integral part of this role, and you will take an active part in education around the management of deteriorating patients, induction programmes, and acute illness management courses. Training will be provided to ensure competency and safety. You will also be involved in service development, improvement and audit.

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
