About the role
This is a 2‑year fixed‑term contract for a Fire and Gas Mapping Engineer within the Commercial Operations department, delivering expert fire and gas detection mapping services across the EMEA region.
Job Responsibilities
* Fire and Gas Mapping Excellence: Conduct comprehensive fire and gas mapping activities, identify and assess risks, and ensure deliverables comply with BS 60080 and related standards.
* Work with customers to create 3‑D models of their sites where necessary.
* Generate accurate and detailed functional descriptions along with CoGs sheets to support the sales team.
* Technical Support and Guidance: Provide expert support to sales, project management and engineering functions, staying abreast of industry developments and regulations.
* Quality and Compliance: Ensure all mapping activities and reports meet internal quality standards and external regulatory requirements, collaborating with the QA team.
* Regional Support and Collaboration: Support the EMEA region by providing timely assistance with enquiries, tenders, application notes and mapping reports for all regional countries.
* Continuous Improvement: Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to identify and implement improvement opportunities within mapping processes.
* Safety and Risk Management: Maintain high safety standards during field activities, utilising risk assessments and hazard observation practices.
* Cost Management: Monitor and control costs associated with mapping activities, ensuring budget compliance.
* Leadership and Team Development: Mentor colleagues and support the development of a high‑performance culture within the Project Engineering team.

* Comply with the Business Information Centre (BIC) and minimise environmental impact.
* Ensure and promote safe working conditions for all employees, visitors and contractors by implementing occupational health & safety provisions.

Reporting Relationships
Reporting to the Engineering Manager (FGDS); works closely with project management, documentation, manufacturing, customer management and resource planning teams.

Education/Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree or above in electrical, instrumentation and control, or related discipline.
Related Experience
* Knowledge of Fire & Gas Detection principles.
* Experience working independently with customers.
* Experience with industrial control panels.
* Background in physics and chemistry.
* Computer proficiency in SAP, CRM, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams), AutoCAD (or similar) and SharePoint.
