A exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Acute Oncology/CUP Team as a Specialist Nurse. This post will enable the current team to develop the Acute Oncology and CUP service across the Trust sites, over a seven day period.
You will be based in the acute oncology team in Scarborough but may at times of high pressure and staff shortages be required to travel to York to support acute oncology services there. The hours of work are four rostered days (8am - 6pm), including working weekends (approx. 1 in 4). Travel time will in included for work away from base.
Main duties of the job
The role will include reviewing patients over the phone and in the department, who have contacted the emergency chemotherapy triage line. The team support and treat chemotherapy toxicities and oncological emergencies, such as neutropenic sepsis and malignant spinal cord compression. It will also involve working closely with the existing medical and nursing teams, providing support and advice in the management of inpatients with complications related to cancer and its treatments.
The role requires excellent communication skills, and a desire to improve the pathway and experience for cancer patients and their families within York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The candidate should have at least 2 years post qualification experience, some of which must be in a relevant speciality, and be willing to undertake additional training including Non medical prescribing.
