Senior Training Fellow in Child Health
Fixed term post from ASAP until 2nd August 2026 within the Department of Child Health at Royal Stoke University Hospital. The role offers a two‑month contract for a senior training fellow (Grade Senior) within a full‑time rota of 40 hours per week.
Desired applicant: A qualified doctor with GMC registration able to work in the UK.
Job Overview
The post holder will gain experience in general paediatrics, including the Children’s Assessment Unit (CAU), wards, paediatric critical care unit, neonatal unit and paediatric outpatient clinics, within a busy unit that provides a full range of general acute and specialist services.
Responsibilities
* Deliver patient care in CAU, wards, paediatric critical care unit and outpatient clinics under appropriate supervision.
* Comply with GMC regulations, Trust policies and procedures including Good Medical Practice, health and safety, appraisal and assessment requirements.
* Participate in induction, clinical and educational supervision, and local and trust inductions.
* Support and supervise junior staff, ensuring efficient utilisation of departmental staffing and resources.
* Contribute to clinical governance, medical audit and research activities as appropriate.
* Assume appropriate duties to support other staff and uphold trust values.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration.
* APLS provider status.
* MRCPCH examination.
* Academic and extracurricular achievements.
Clinical Experience
* Experience at ST3 Paediatrics level or above.
* Ability to work on a middle‑grade rota in General Paediatrics.
* Ability to work on a middle‑grade rota in Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Skills
* Strong teamwork skills and ability to manage workload effectively under pressure.
* Effective communication with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals.
* Proficient handling of medical problems with evidence of safe and practical procedures.
* Knowledge of NHS changes and their impact on specialty work.
* Awareness of clinical governance importance.
Personal Characteristics
* Evidence of continuing professional updating.
* Highly motivated and enthusiastic about paediatric care.
* Clear reason for wanting this rotation.
* Good standing certificates and references available from current medical council.
