The successful candidate will provide excellent psychiatric care, taking responsibility for beds for Older Adults on the Maples Unit in Peterborough.
The job plan is flexible to accommodate clinical and professional interests, with time allocated for activities such as teaching and research for suitably qualified and motivated individuals.
The post holder will collaborate closely with colleagues in the CRHTT OP, community teams, and liaison services for older people to ensure a seamless care pathway.
Maples is a bedded ward staffed as a single unit, with patients with functional and organic illnesses managed in two separate areas (beds for dementia and beds for functional). The ward is supported by a full multidisciplinary team including access to occupational therapists, psychology, physiotherapy, and SALT. It also benefits from input from a dementia nurse consultant. The ward is supported by a full-time SAS doctor and two junior doctors. The post holder is expected to be a clinical supervisor for the specialty trainee, with development as an educational supervisor encouraged. A robust discharge planning team is in place. One community geriatrician from CPFT visits the ward weekly, and all community physical health teams are available to support the ward.
Main duties of the job
* To provide excellent psychiatric care for Older Adults within the designated inpatient area and provide clinical leadership to other mental health professionals.
* To develop and deliver high-quality mental health services within an integrated community model.
* To assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients with complex psychiatric and psychological co-morbidities, working collaboratively with the MDT to ensure high-quality, integrated care.
* To deliver evidence-based treatments.
* To make accurate diagnoses and record them appropriately.
* To maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
* To participate in cross-cover for colleagues for annual and study leave to ensure continuous service provision.
