Purpose of the role
To apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response, to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology throughout the organization.
Accountabilities
* Availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
* Resolution, analysis and response to system outages and disruptions, and implementation of measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
* Development of tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload, increasing efficiency, and improving system resilience.
* Monitoring and optimisation of system performance and resource usage, identifying and addressing bottlenecks, and implementing best practices for performance tuning.
* Collaboration with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle, and working closely with other teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
* Staying informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contributing to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

Role Overview
Join us as a Senior PostgreSQL SRE at Barclays, where you will effectively monitor and maintain the bank’s critical technology infrastructure, resolve complex technical issues, and minimise disruption to operations. In this role you will shape the direction of our database administration, ensure innovative and business‑aligned approaches, guide high‑impact projects, collaborate with management, and implement SRE practices using software engineering and database administration at scale.
Requirements
* Strong experience as a Principal Level Database Administrator, with a focus on PostgreSQL.
* A proven track record of implementing and leading SRE practices across large organizations or complex teams.
* Extensive hands‑on experience with Containers and Kubernetes.
* In‑depth experience with DevOps automation tools such as code versioning (git), JIRA, Ansible, database CI/CD tools and their implementation.
Additional Skills
* Expertise with scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and migration tasks.
* Experience working on data migration tools and software.
* Expertise in system configuration management tools such as Chef and Ansible for database server configurations.
