We are looking for a committed Functional Skills Specialist to join an SEN school, supporting young people with Autism, Mental Health and challenging Behaviour. Functional Skills Specialists are crucial for ensuring that all children are given the same opportunities to flourish throughout their school life, regardless of their behaviour.
You will be specialising in phonics for KS1 and KS2 students who are academically behind with their progress. Therefore, experience in teaching phonics to lower-ability students isessential.
It will be fundamental to provide and individualised approach to enable each child to access the curriculum at their level / stage of development. The ideal candidate will be passionate for the job with an ability to reach out to students and create a relationship of mutual trust. You will know how to engage students, inspiring them with a desire to learn.
The school has a great feel, supportive SLT and has approximately 50 young pupils who have a variety of social, emotional, educational and behavioural needs. The school’s aim is to fill the gap by working with young people with EHCP’s or who have been excluded from mainstream school at an early age due to their conditions.
Our teachers all work with other Teaching Assistants and Teachers within the school, so you feel supported. In addition, our dedicated consultant is there for you with any worries, struggles or questions!
Key Responsibilities:
* Inspiring students by demonstrating outstanding behaviour management skills
* Supporting the students throughout the school day in lessons and recreational time.
* Ensuring a safe and supportive environment for the development of the children, who have varying levels of needs.
* Showing a commitment to raising attainment, work-ethic and self-esteem of all pupils
* Supporting and adapting classwork for children depending on individual needs
* Effective communication skills between other teaching staff
* Safeguarding of children to ensure their safety in and out of school
Qualified Teacher Status is preferred but not essential at this stage; we will accept CVs from experienced Teaching Assistants and Higher-Level Teaching Assistants who are looking to obtain Qualified Teacher Status.
These education jobs have a lot of opportunities for you to build your experience and develop your skillset. All of our roles are immediate starts with paid trial days. You will also have the opportunity to go permanent (which is often the case!) should you fall in love with the school (and we’re sure you will!)
Rikama do not accept roles from any schools on a day-to-day basis and only take long-term and/or permanent positions. Because of this, we can guarantee a long-term placement. We have a high success rate when it comes to permanent transfers from long-term placements, so if you are looking to build your experience and sample different schools, Rikama are the place for you!

Rikama require all candidates to undergo a full registration process and hold an Enhanced DBS (formerly known as CRB).
