Job Summary
The Radiological Sciences Group in the Portsmouth Hospitals Medical Physics department is seeking to appoint a Band 8B clinical scientist to join a friendly team providing comprehensive physics support to healthcare professionals within and outside Portsmouth. The post is based at Queen Alexandra hospital with some travel to other hospitals/centres.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will be HCPC registered and an accredited Radiation Protection Advisor and Medical Physics Expert (both for diagnostic radiology). Expertise as a Laser Protection Advisor is desirable. Candidates without experience in all areas are encouraged to apply, as role development can be discussed. Job Responsibilities
You will join a team of 11 clinical scientists, technicians, and trainees. As RPA, you will be responsible for specific diagnostic X-ray modalities; as MPE, supporting a wide range of X-ray modalities across hospitals. Opportunities exist to work with clinical staff to optimize staff safety and patient imaging, ensuring high quality and safe imaging.
The department is an accredited training center with links to Portsmouth, UCL, and Surrey universities. Staff are encouraged to participate in national professional groups, present, and publish scientific work. The successful candidate may undertake the Higher Specialist Scientific Training or part-time PhD.
Portsmouth is a historic seaside city with a mild climate, beaches, and cultural amenities. The New Forest, South Downs, and Isle of Wight are nearby. The city is well connected by road, rail, ferry, and airport. The train station is within walking distance of the hospital.

Qualifications
* Certification as a Radiation Protection Adviser
* Certification as Medical Physics Expert (Diagnostic Radiology)
* MSc or equivalent in Medical Physics-related subject
* HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist in Medical Physics
Desirable
* Certification as Laser Protection Adviser
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals
Experience
* Extensive experience and highly specialized knowledge in radiation protection and imaging physics
Desirable: leading teams, managing projects, presenting at conferences, involvement with professional groups.
