School Nurse – Stroud
We are looking for a registered nurse or midwife to work part time with children and families in the School Nursing team in Stroud. This is a fixed term position 22.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job
A School Nurse is someone who is dynamic and innovative, embraces challenge, wants to help children, families and young people to make the best choices for their health and wellbeing, can support and respond to children, young people and families most in need, wants to help safeguard children and young people of Gloucestershire at risk of harm, is interested in working in partnership with public sector and voluntary and community sector colleagues to achieve the best outcomes for children, young people and their families, and is enthusiastic and motivated to develop and deliver plans to improve health outcomes for individuals, families and communities.
We are looking to fill a fixed term vacancy in Stroud until 31 August 2027.
Job responsibilities
* Responsible and accountable for assessing and implementing programmes of care from the Healthy Child Programme, as directed by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse; this may also involve other evidence‑based programmes of care in partnership with clients or other agencies to identify and address health needs.
* Progress the level of intervention as required according to identified risk factors that may impact a child’s health outcomes.
* Provide leadership and act as a role model to junior members of the team, representing the values and beliefs of the nursing profession and aligning to the GHC Values Framework.
* Assess global health needs of communities, schools, and their children to ensure children are not disadvantaged through ill health or social circumstances.
* Promote and monitor health in school‑aged children, including identifying physical and mental health needs, disability and problems with development or behaviour.
* Work with schools to provide a healthy environment using data from the Online Pupil Survey, in partnership with the Healthy Schools Programme.
* Facilitate the planning and implementation of drop‑in sessions, according to the needs of the young people and the whole school community.
Person Specification
* Demonstrates an understanding of public health nursing in application
* Has some knowledge/experience of safeguarding children
* Has previous experience of working with children and families
* NMC registration
* Strong time management and organisation skills
* Shows emotional strength and resilience
