As the Director of Reserving, you will be responsible for running the reserving team and process, and for making a draft line 1 recommendation to the VP on the proposed reserves. You will coordinate the actuarial analysis of the team to make appropriate and robust actuarial indication and technical provision recommendations consistent with the Intact reserving policy and philosophy whilst considering all relevant aspects. You will be a member of the UK&I Corporate Actuarial Leadership Team, having responsibilities for both Reserving and the day‑to‑day coordination and running of the function and its wider responsibilities.
You’ll make an impact by:
* Lead reserving analysis and roll‑forward activities, ensuring coherence with IFRS17, Solvency II and related development workstreams, and oversee accurate booking, communication and reporting.
* Manage a team delivering high‑quality actuarial analysis, working with data, identifying trends, building robust models and providing balanced actuarial indications with clear communication.
* Ensure actuarial processes comply with all professional standards, regulatory requirements, Intact policies, the Financial Control Framework and line 2 obligations.
* Maintain and enhance actuarial assumptions, modelling, methodologies and reporting, ensuring industry insights and trends are appropriately incorporated.
* Oversee the Senior Actuary peer review process, ensuring completion, documentation and appropriate action ahead of review by the Reserving Specialist.
* Deliver accurate and timely actuarial handoffs to Finance, complete quarterly control and governance processes, and review monthly AvE output to inform reserving decisions and reporting.
* Provide support and responses to auditors, regulators, external reviewers and Group, and review actuarial elements of products aligned to relevant reserving classes.
* Lead, develop and motivate the Corporate Actuarial team, ensuring the delivery of actuarial advice, knowledge sharing, technical development, and the adoption of new techniques and efficiencies across Intact.
Your skills and experience
* You will be a qualified Actuary or equivalent with extensive experience in delivering substantial multi-disciplinary actuarial decisions within Commercial or Specialty lines.
* Leadership experience is key to success in your role, and you will have led high‑performing teams, whilst developing your people, and leading through change.
* You will have a deep understanding of the in‑scope business, with the commercial astuteness and ability to drive and support financial performance through insight arising from Corporate Actuarial services.
* Experience with both IFRS and Solvency II.
* You will have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with senior internal and external stakeholders.
