Senior Research Grants Manager BGS Business Development Team Band: UKRI Pay Band E Salary: £45,272 per annum Contract Type: Open Ended Full-time – 37 hours a week or part-time (some flexible working options may be available, including a small amount of remote working, in line with BGS policy) Location: BGS Headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham Closing date: Sunday 13th July 2025 A great benefits package is offered including an outstanding pension scheme (with an extremely generous employer contribution – on average 27% of your pay), 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays About the role BGS has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Research Grants Manager to join the BGS Business Development Team which sits within the BGS Operations function. You will be seen as the BGS expert in UKRI grants, developing relationships with key funding contacts, be knowledgeable in relevant UKRI funding to BGS and be the leading authority on all grant application systems, providing advice and support on application submission processes (e.g. supporting staff and scientists using the UKRI funding service). The specific essential and desirable skills criteria for this post will be assessed at Shortlist (S) stage, interview (I) stage, or both (S&I). Essential · Degree educated – or have substantial equivalent work experience (S) · Experience in pre-award grant process and in grant proposal writing/editing, and review (S&I) · Work experience in a public sector organisation or research environment (S&I) · Experience of specific processes/systems e.g. computerised finance/HR system, UKRI funding service and EU participant portal systems (S&I) · Knowledge of UK research funding landscape and EU research funding programmes, calls and application processes (S&I) · Excellent communication and presentation skills and attention to detail (S&I) · Ability to work within a variety of teams, demonstrating an ability to lead teams and to participate as a team member (I) · Demonstrates an interest in their own Continuing Professional Development and displays a passion for their role and a desire to develop this further (I) · You will be committed to a diverse and inclusive approach to work in the geosciences (S&I) · Able to travel off-site both within the UK and abroad (S) Desirable · Knowledge of a geoscience funding landscape (S&I) About you Do you have relevant grant management experience and a proven track record in developing grant proposals and helping secure grant-based income? We are looking for someone who can build a thorough knowledge of the wide range of research and services delivered by BGS, and if you already have knowledge of geoscience, this will make you a highly desirable candidate. In addition, you will have excellent communication skills as you will be required to communicate BGS’s science and information to a wide range of collaborators and stakeholders.
