Senior Radiographer

We are looking for radiographers with post‑graduate experience who wish to further develop their skills.

This Senior Radiographer role is for those not merely interested in routine day‑to‑day radiographer positions which may be offered elsewhere. Main duties of the job

Post‑holders will be radiographers who are keen to be part of an imaging service with a difference. The Trust’s imaging directorate is undergoing a period of transformational change where innovation is at the forefront of what we do.

We are seeking senior radiographers who wish to work at West Middlesex University Hospital so that they are surrounded by people who put patients first but are also keen to invest in themselves and the organisation. The Trust has a commitment to develop band 6 radiographers by exposing them to all modalities including:

* General radiography
* OPG
* Mammography
* CT
* MRI
* Fluoroscopy
* Interventional
* BMD

Core hours: the successful applicant will be required to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Core hours will be worked on a rotational basis, between 8 am and 8 pm Monday to Sunday, night shifts and on‑call.

We are willing to consider flexible working requests which are in the best interests of the applicant and the organisation.


Job responsibilities

* Produce high quality imaging services to assist in diagnosis and treatment.
* Train and supervise junior staff and student radiographers.
* Approach all situations with curiosity, interest and an innovative mindset.
* Demonstrate perspective‑taking when dealing with patients, customers and fellow staff.
* Undertake all radiographic duties efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
* Ensure all patients receive the best possible standard of care.
* Commit to own development by exposing yourself to all necessary modalities at West Middlesex University Hospital or Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
* Be conversant with procedures in general and screening rooms, ED, mobile and theatre radiography; become proficient in specialised techniques such as CT, IR and MRI.
* Assist with practical training of junior staff and students, acting as a role model.
* Communicate with other staff members to ensure the smooth running of the directorate.
* Ensure Radiation Protection guidelines, IR(ME)R, IRR and local rules are strictly adhered to.
* Ensure safety guidelines are followed whilst in the MRI unit.
* Maintain compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
* Participate in departmental quality assurance programmes.
* Proactively propose QI projects, collect data and present at inter‑national conferences.
* Participate in research studies conducted at the Trust, including those in partnership with Imperial College.
* Report and record all equipment faults and assist with the diagnosis and remedy of routine faults.
* Participate in on‑call and stand‑by rotas as required.
* Offer initial assessment and interpretation of images produced by yourself or junior staff.
* Demonstrate safe manual handling and infection control techniques.
* Strive to achieve competencies required to progress to a band 7 radiographer role.
* Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability with rostering requirements.
* Commit to continuing professional development (CPD) and attend relevant activities.
* Participate in periodic professional development reviews per Trust guidelines.
* Carry out any other duties that may be appropriate to the post.


Person Specification – Education and Qualifications

* BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR (R) or accepted international equivalent
* HCPC registration
* Member of SOR
* Interest in further study and CPD, including research
* Quality Improvement (QI), transformation or innovation training
* Post‑graduate qualification in imaging (e.g., CT)


Experience

* Broad general radiographic experience (minimum 1 year NHS experience)
* Proven acumen for open‑mind, “can‑do” attitude
* Demonstrable Quality Improvement, transformation or innovation experience
* Student supervision responsibilities
* Competency assessment responsibilities
* Experience with writing protocols, policies and/or procedures
* Radiation protection supervisor training
* IV cannulation trained and competent


Skills and Knowledge

* Able to work independently and within a complex team
* Decision‑making ability
* Organisational skills
* Willingness to teach/training
* Up‑to‑date technical knowledge
* Ability to undertake primary diagnosis from acquired images
* Ability to safely use specialist equipment
* Strong customer service standards
* Able to supervise junior staff and students
* Willingness to participate in departmental service development
* Appreciation of patient confidentiality principles
* Willingness to extend role (e.g., IV cannulation)
* Leadership skills and/or potential
* Awareness of developments in the NHS

Benefits

£45,953 to £54,254 a year, inclusive of HCAS. Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites. Employment is subject to a six‑month probationary period.
