Research Associate in Archaeology of Later Pastoralism in Eastern Africa (Fixed term)
The McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research invites applications for a Research Associate in Archaeology of Later Pastoralism in Eastern Africa (Fixed term) at University of Cambridge.
Position details:
* Fixed-term: 36 months, starting 1st August 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
* Location: Main base at the McDonald Institute, Cambridge, with research trips to Kenya.
Responsibilities include:
* Documentation and analysis of Pastoral Iron Age settlement systems, diets, and mobility patterns in northern and central Kenya.
* Utilizing archaeological, geoarchaeological, bioarchaeological, ethnohistorical, and remote sensing methods.
* Working collaboratively in a diverse team, leading archaeological surveys and excavations.
Qualifications:
* PhD required; applicants with submitted but not yet received PhD will be initially appointed as Research Assistant.
* Preference for candidates based in the region and early career researchers trained in geoarchaeology, isotopic analyses, landscape archaeology and GIS, zooarchaeology, or archaeological proteomics.
