Overview
The Nuclear Graduates programme offers two years of experience with two years of involvement across the UK nuclear sector, including opportunities for three secondments. Sponsoring companies for the 2026 cohort include Rolls-Royce, the Office for Nuclear Regulation, the Atomic Weapons Establishment, the Ministry of Defence - Defence Nuclear Enterprise, Great British Energy - Nuclear, and the Environment Agency. The programme provides professional development, exposure to projects with real impact, and the chance to contribute to designs, systems, products, and services in the nuclear sector.
You will be employed by Energus during the two-year journey and supported by an industry-leading sponsoring organisation. At the end of the programme, you will be supported in securing a role with your sponsoring organisation or within the wider nuclear sector.
Responsibilities
* Develop and apply Safety Engineering methods to deliver solutions that fulfil organisational requirements.
* Gain experience in nuclear safety case structures, deterministic safety methods, analytical safety techniques (such as Probabilistic Safety Assessment methods, Human Factors, Severe Accident Analysis).
* Develop the technical skills to develop and maintain nuclear safety cases and understand hazards associated with products and facilities and how protection mechanisms keep risks tolerable.
You will work on Nuclear Safety techniques and their application to Nuclear Reactor Plant Safety cases and/or supporting nuclear manufacturing facility safety cases for naval and/or civil applications. Safety cases are fundamental to the safe operation of our products and facilities.
Qualifications
* Minimum of a 2:2 at Bachelor's level in an Engineering, Science or mathematical discipline.
* Educational experience of safety in a high hazard industry is desirable.
* A strong interest in nuclear power generation.
* Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
* Willingness to travel and relocate; energus head office is based in Workington, Cumbria, with role locations varying by sponsor location.
Successful candidates typically demonstrate a strong focus on safety, open-minded and inquisitive attitude, diligence, attention to detail, and a high standard of technical rigour.
Entry requirements
* A minimum of a 2:2 in a relevant degree subject.
* Right to work for the duration of the 2-year programme (offers conditional upon right-to-work checks).
* Successful completion of security clearance checks.
* Willingness and ability to travel and relocate; Energus head office in Workington, Cumbria; role locations vary by sponsor.
Start date: September 2026
Recruitment stages
* Online application form – complete all required sections.
* Psychometric assessment (Neurosight) – sent via email.
* Online interview – 20-30 minute video interview with sponsoring organisation.
* Assessment centre – face-to-face activities and industry information.
* Offer – outcomes issued within two weeks after assessment centres; start preparations with security paperwork.
* Onboarding – welcome sessions and preparation ahead of the start date in September 2026.
Face-to-face assessment centres will take place in early 2026. Applicants invited to an assessment centre should be able to attend.
Closing Date: Friday 14th November 2025. Applications received after this date will not be considered. We may close the role early if we receive sufficient applications. Apply at the earliest opportunity. Only one Nuclear Graduates application is required.
