Overview

Surrey Adult Learning (SAL) is seeking an enthusiastic and well organised individual to plan and deliver high quality learning for adults in Digital Skills and Vocational and act as expert practitioner in the delivery of accredited programmes. Initially they will have lead responsibility for our Career Building Block courses, currently Preparing to Work in Schools and Preparing to Work in Health and Social Care and responsibilities within Digital Skills as well as a teaching timetable.


Responsibilities

* Collaborate with a dedicated team to mentor tutors, share best practice, and foster a culture of continuous improvement through supportive observation and feedback. Support and mentor other Adult Learning tutors, including through observations of teaching and learning. Act as a critical friend while promoting the sharing of good practice, leading to higher standards of quality in teaching, learning and assessment.
* Be focused on Quality and Lifelong Learning: part of a team committed to delivering high-quality, learner-centred WSIT and Vocational provision aligned with the Ofsted inspection framework. Complete and maintain all required quality documentation necessary for the course and meet external awarding body requirements including the internal verification (IV) of learners\' work in preparation for the EQA.
* Make a Real Difference: help shape inclusive programmes that support adult learners across Surrey, with a strong emphasis on personal growth and achievement. Support the Programme Leads for Digital Skills and Vocational in developing the Digital Skills and Vocational provision across all Surrey Adult Learning centres and online. As Lead Tutor / Tutor Observer, act as a critical friend, promoting good practice to enhance standards in teaching, learning and assessment across Digital Skills and Vocational curriculum areas. Design structured teaching programmes aligned to subject requirements, learner needs, and agreed schemes of work. Ensure all quality documentation is completed and maintained in line with internal processes and awarding body requirements. Provide guidance and support to tutors, promoting consistency in planning, delivery, resource development, risk assessment and course evaluation. Contribute to the development of curriculum materials and resources. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and build effective professional relationships.


Qualifications

* A recognised teaching qualification and substantial experience teaching Digital Skills and Vocational to adults, with a strong understanding of adult learning principles.
* Proven experience conducting or participating in formal observations of teaching and learning, aligned with the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework.
* Demonstrated success in working within an Ofsted-regulated environment to maintain and enhance high standards of teaching, learning and learner support.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, alongside strong IT proficiency to support teaching, planning and quality assurance.
* Experience in marking and internal verification (IV) of vocational qualifications, ensuring compliance with awarding body standards and supporting learner achievement.


Terms and Benefits

Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation, moving from a two-tier system to two new unitary councils in April 2027. If you are employed by Surrey on 1st April 2027, your role will transfer with current terms and conditions to one of the new organisations, supporting local devolution and greater powers for our communities.

* Starting salary: £22,123 per annum for 21.6 hours per week. Full-time equivalent salary: £36,873 per annum.
* 26 days' holiday, rising to 28 days after 2 years' service and 31 days after 5 years' service (prorated for part-time staff).
