Purpose of the role

To manage the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial reporting.


Accountabilities

* Lead the accurate and timely production and presentation of the Barclays Group and material subsidiaries statutory and financial regulatory reports.
* Lead senior stakeholder engagement across Finance and the wider organisation to deliver statutory and regulatory financial reporting objectives, partnering effectively to identify and remediate issues, and manage change efficiently.
* Lead engagement with external auditors and regulatory authorities in respect of audits and regulatory financial reporting submissions, ensuring effective communication, timeliness of responses, and appropriate resolution of matters.
* Support in the design, implementation and maintenance of an effective risk and control environment; ensure key financial reporting risks are identified, assessed and mitigated in line with the Barclays Control Framework, and provide regular assessment of the effectiveness of internal controls, developing mitigants where necessary.
* Management of the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, and other accounting records in accordance with relevant accounting standards, rules and regulations.
* Support in identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks, and report on these risks to senior colleagues.
* Development and maintenance of a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure no fraudulent misreporting, and ensure accuracy of financial data, with regular assessment addressing any weaknesses or gaps.
* Development and implementation of up-to-date financial policies and procedures across the organisation.
* Management of the selection, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and software applications, collaborating with IT and integrating with other enterprise systems.
* Preparation and submission of statutory and regulatory reports to authorities; support other departments in preparation and review of regulatory reports.
* Coordination with external auditors and regulatory authorities in support of audits and examinations.


Pre-requisite Skills

* Qualified accountant with great knowledge of IFRS accounting and reporting requirements, ideally within a financial services/banking organisation.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, preferably with experience or exposure to senior financial leaders.
* Proven track record of managing and developing high performing teams; both directly and in a matrix hierarchical organisation.
* Experience of scale leadership across the wider organisation – acting as a successful advocate for their team, function and organisation to drive positive change outcomes.


Director Expectations

* Manage a business function, providing significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives.
* Lead direction of a large team or sub‑function, embedding a performance culture aligned with business values.
* Act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross‑functionally.
* Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions.
* Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub‑function.
* Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
* Foster and guide compliance, ensuring regulations are observed and processes in place to facilitate adherence.
* Focus on external environment, regulators or advocacy groups to influence on behalf of Barclays.
* Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/group.
* Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline.
* Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in complex situations.
* Exercise management authority to make significant and strategic decisions within own area.
* Negotiate and influence stakeholders at senior level internally and externally.
* Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts.
* Mandated as spokesperson for the function and business division.
