We are seeking a dedicatedArboricultural Officerto join our team and help manage and enhance our town’s diverse tree stock across parks, open spaces, public and housing land. As Arboricultural Officer, you will play a key role in:
* inspecting and assessing the health and safety of trees across the borough
* managing tree works and contracts, ensuring compliance with best practice and legislation
* advising on insurance and development proposals affecting trees
* supporting biodiversity and climate resilience through sustainable tree management
* co-ordinating the delivery of tree planting schemes and biodiversity initiatives
* engaging with residents, contractors, and internal teams to promote tree care and awareness
* providing advice, guidance and support to colleagues within the council to deliver tree works and enhance the safety of Crawley residents
We are looking for someone who has:
* a recognised qualification in arboriculture or a related field, preferably to National Certificate level
* thorough knowledge of tree biology, pests and diseases, and relevant legislation
* experience in tree surveying and using GIS or tree management software
* excellent IT and report writing skills
* a proactive, collaborative person who is passionate about Crawley and efficient service delivery
* a resilient individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment
* a confident, assertive communicator who can solve problems and make decisions
Additional information
Working hours are 7:00 to 15:00 Monday to Thursday, and 7:00 to 14:30 Friday.
A flexible approach to these hours based on the demand of the service is expected and a TOIL system is in place to cover any extra hours worked. Occasional evening and weekend working may be required.
A full and current UK driving licence will be a requirement of the role and Essential User Car user allowance is payable.
