Position: Independent Hospital Manager
Salary: £60,000 / annum
Location: Dewsbury WF12
Role Purpose
The Independent Hospital Manager (IHM) sits on the Managers' Hearing Panel, serving a critical appellate and quality oversight function in the context of the Mental Health Act:
* Review and adjudicate on whether service users detained under the Mental Health Act should be discharged.
* Conduct quarterly panel meetings and review individual case documentation to ensure fair and lawful decision-making.
* Visit wards to engage directly with detained individuals, promoting awareness of their rights and amplifying their voices in the review process.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend and contribute to quarterly hearings as part of the managerial review panel.
* Review Section documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to legal standards.
* Sit on the Managers' Hearing Panel, actively participating in deliberations regarding discharge and detention extensions.
* Conduct ward visits to speak with service users directly—gathering insights in a respectful, empathetic setting.
* Bring together clinical, legal, and ethical considerations in each decision, while maintaining both procedural propriety and person-centred practice.
Qualifications & Experience
* Education: Degree-level qualification or relevant registration in health/social care; postgraduate qualifications are a plus. Nurses
* Experience:
* Understanding and practical experience of the Mental Health Act process.
* Prior involvement in hearing panels (e.g., AMHP panels, tribunal processes, managerial hearings) is highly desirable. apply.priorygroup.comNurses
